Man of my Dreams
When I was growing up in the islands my parents were very popular people. Especially with all the locals. Dad was a sales man and probably walked into every house on the island of Kauai. Mom worked for the church and new every parishioner that attended, or atleast I thought she did. They both was in charge of our churches youth group, making them know by all the teens as well. I was exploring my way around the entertainment industry and wanted to be famous I guess. Who doesn’t want to be famous right. So I joined everything I could that would get me some exposure.
I did talent shows and other teen competitions through out our state. I even participated in pageant’s and actually won one of them and became the first runner up in the other one. I received a full paid scholarship towards any school or institutions of my choosing. I was trying for the world renowned singing tour group who traveled around the world and would teach all my academics too. But one thing was stopping me, I had to audition and make it through their vigorous schedule and levels of competitions throughout the state of Hawaii. I needed to get in.
The beginning of my Senior year was amazing, I was on top of the world. I was being interview by the local news papers and had my picture in different kinds of island news. Out of eight thousand applicants, it was narrowed down to one thousand, then hundred until it was down to just two of us from the state. One was from Oahu, and the other one was me from Kauai. Because of this I was quickly getting well know, and so was my parents even more. We traveled around the island and appeared at many functions.
My faith had taken a turn for more of Jesus, and I always was considered that rascal teen that was curious about everything. I found my self kind of getting very high nose and honoree, why not I had a title. I didn’t even know at the time but before the fall comes the high mountain that we stand on. My Dad and Mom was in charge of the youth ministry for years and I have to admit, some of the times when the youth group meet I was just going through the motion’s but I really did find myself in being a Christian there. Dad and Mom was really awesome parents, now as I write this I think of that question all the time, ” How can I be a good parent to my six children?” it’s not easy ae we are finding out. Anyway back to the first time I seen him…The Man of my dreams…
Then it happened; I went to a party and scene a guy that I thought he was the most handsomest Hawaiian I have ever scene. I wanted to go over and just chant with him by my boy friend at the time was his cousin, and that may have not looked so good. I was attracted and I hoped that I was going to see him again. The next day I called it quits with my boy friend. A couple of weeks passed and for mothers day we went to eat at the Sheraton for breakfast, and guess what, our server was the one and only, Yes the guy from the party. He was serving me. I felt so excited, and my Dad new something was up, I was acting funny. I remember that night I prayed to see him again, and I did.
I went to another party and a friend called me over to introduce us, and as soon as he said my name, (the man of my dreams) Barfed all over the floor. I was shocked and walked away. I thought it could have happened to anyone right? So we talked some after he got cleaned up and found out everyone at the party wanted us to get together to sing some local melodies from Hawaii. I could sing and “Joe” was the ukulele/ guitar player and while everyone was having a good time drinking and smoking they wanted us to entertain them. Yes the man of my dreams was know as Joseph. I left that night, and atleast had a name to go with the face I seen for the very first time at my boyfriend’s party, well ex boyfriend.
